Dr Declan Mulkeen

Declan Mulkeen was awarded a PhD in Neurophysiology from Trinity College Dublin. He joined the Medical Research Council (MRC) in 1988 and worked on secondment to the OST Foresight Programme (94/95) returning to Head Office to work on strategy, policy and ethics in the Corporate Affairs Group. He joined the Research Management Group in 2001, working first with the Physiological Medicine and Infections Board (to 2003), and then with the Neurosciences and Mental Health Board (to 2006). Declan Mulkeen was appointed as the MRC’s Chief of Strategy in December 2016. He currently sits on the MRC’s Management Board, MRC Strategy Board and UKRI Strategy Committee. He heads the MRC Strategy Group, which covers: Strategic Planning, Evaluation and Impact; International; Research Training and Careers; Industry and Translation.
